You guys
I think I’ve figured it out.
I’m completely burned out. Almost totally. It’s incredibly hard for me to get anything done during the week. My brain is vibrating mush.
At my real job, I’ve got total inertia. On the weekends, I produce posters and websites and logos like a fiend.
Thing is, I can’t remember how I’ve fixed this before.
Any ideas?
TooFactor Blog: Announcing TooFactor →
toofactor:
Today, we’ve announced our drop-in two factor authentication service called (amazingly) TooFactor. We’re excited to be doing this for the development community. We’re developers, too, and we’ve been scouring the web for a snap-in solution. Finding nothing that suited us, we did it ourselves. …
This is a thing I’m launching with some friends. Insert...

Since I haven’t been around much recently, here are a few belated words about the events of Tuesday. My intention here is not to step on toes or spark further debate, but simply to share my thoughts on the subject if you care to hear them.
Due to the fact that my voter registration is still in…

Long shot
I know Merlin Mann makes a habit of not generally wading into the craziness of the interwebs with regard to responding to random folks, so this is a bit of a (weird, creepy) longshot.
BUT.
The injury he’s been talking about on Back To Work (this one) is virtually identical to the one I had about three months ago. As it turned out it was a separation between my C6/C7, and I had indeed...
Hahaha. It means “last call”. Some of us are CRACKING UP. It should be known we are mildly inebriated.
Also: Burjit is sort of my favorite human.

On the Apple Store
Over the weekend, one of us lost the MiniDisplay to MiniDisplay adapter we use to make one of our 27” iMacs into a monitor. After hunting around and firing off text messages to each other, we just gave up and went to the Apple store. Once there I explained my issue and was assured that a ThunderBolt cable would work. I resisted, saying that even though the connectors are identical the...

Severing the ties to "home"
This most recent “Roderick On The Line” episode is precisely why I love and respect John Roderick and Merlin Mann so much. It’s a beautiful conversation and it’s going to resonate with me for weeks and weeks. You should be listening to this podcast. In fact, I’m starting to feel really bad—after 29 episodes—that I’m getting this for free.
Kids, go...
Upon my return
I found this place near the little lake in the apartment complex I was staying at where I could lie on this grassy hill and listen to Roderick on the Line without interruption.
My little daughter is the best possible human. She is kind, smart and hilarious. She also loved listening to “Murmur” as we drove to the zoo, and she pointed to the sticker on my back window and said,...

Startupping
I work for a startup (sort of; it’s hard to describe a consultancy as a startup, I guess) within a somewhat larger startup community. I love my team. They’re awesome, hard-working, ingenious guys. But this community…boy, howdy.
As this current tech bubble nears bursting point, I’m seeing more brogrammers, backslappers and hucksters than I ever have in my previous...

So I went online
and using Google Maps, I traced the route from my childhood home—by car—to my elementary school. Then to the houses of old friends. My home town looks so much bigger than it did when I left it. I was 24 and after having lived there my whole life I felt confined and restrained. I was so ready to get to Washington, DC and start something else. I was in love, and following that love to wherever it...
My tumblr pal katefeetie
kicks loads of ass. Please remember her name. It will be the answer to Jeopardy questions and the refrain of labor songs that your children’s children sing.
She’s a model human, is hilarious, and is quitting her soul sucking job. Wish her well.

Every client email
that begins with “I’m not and engineer, but” will conclude with an impressive but flawed impression of a engineer.
These are just the rules. I don’t make them.

That thing where
You work twelve hour days at a job with a ballpit and a MacBook Air and a fancy fucking title but you’re so broke that you can’t fix your car and you just want to hug your daughter but can’t afford to get to her.
Or as I call it, “days whose names end in ‘Y’.”
